Why Re-gas / Recharge your Air Con?

There are numerous reasons to get your air conditioning recharged or serviced, the most obvious reason being keeping you cool when you drive in hot weather. Getting the most out of your fuel tank is also one reason why you should have your air condition recharged and serviced frequently. A Properly recharged and serviced air con increases fuel efficiency. This is because when the refrigerant in your air con is low, the air con system works extra hard to produce cold air to keep you cool. This extra work uses more fuel.

It is also good to recharge routinely so that you can avoid paying for air con parts and repairs which can be very expensive. The air con refrigerant also acts as a cooler for the air con compressor. Without it, the compressor will get too hot and fail.

Why does your Air Con stop working?

The refrigerant or gas in the air conditioning unit is crucial to a properly working air con system. The cold air in the cabin is formed by the refrigerant or gas flowing through the system. When this process is performed, the refrigerant continually changes state from gas, to liquid and back to gas again, which results in some of the loss of gas through the system each year. Less gas means less coo air so refilling every year will ensure your air con working efficiently.

Low refrigerant or gas level is the most common reason for air con failure and also the easiest to fix. If your air con doesn’t work properly after re-gas, there might be a crack somewhere in the pipes of the air con system and the refrigerant is escaping.

How is your car’s air con unit Recharged?

The air con system is recharged by removing all of the existing refrigerant and any traces of moisture from the system and replacing with new and sufficient amount of refrigerant.

We use and automatic air con servicing machine which is connected to the air con system under the bonnet using two hoses, one to the high pressure port,, the other to the low pressure port. A pressure test is carried out first to find out how much gas has been lost. If the test result shows little or no gas is left in the system, this indicates a more serious issue such as a leak and the recharge is stopped. If there are no faults, the machine recovers the old refrigerant and any impurities from the system through a special vacuum pump. Next, fresh gas and lubricant are injected back in to the air con system according to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended volume and type.

How long does an air con recharge take?

The procedure takes around 45 minutes to totally extract the old gas and top refill with new refrigerant. At Part Worn Tyres Braintree, you can have your air con recharged while you wait and enjoy our complimentary wifi and hot beverages.
